What do you call a gathering of Mages?

“Please hold. All muses are busy right now, but your inspiration is important to us…”

Things have been crazy/busy here lately but I finally feel like I am getting back on track. I took a bit of a breather today to catch up on some blogs I enjoy reading . Although the internet can be overwhelming at times, reading other people’s blogs can sometimes feel like catching up with old friends.

Apart from mythology, folklore, and science many of you know I have a keen interest in the occult and magic.  One of the magical blogs I enjoy reading is Head for the Red: The ongoing adventures and insights of a magician’s attempts to accomplish the Great Work. The author  is a straight spoken and humorous man who has no problems sharing his insights and ideas. If you are in any way curious about magic or modern day magicians (the other kind, not rabbit-in-the-hat-illusionists) you must check out his site, his links and his blog list right here: http://headforred.blogspot.com/ . The list is a comprehensive cross section of some of the most interesting people I know in the magical community.

Magic comes in many other forms as well. Lovely Marion is a spinner of stories and a shaman art heart;  her blog always keeps me grounded. You can read more about her here: http://mysteahag.blogspot.com/   Another magician, although he might not see himself as one, is a wordsmith that knows how to breathe new life into myth. His name is Malcolm and you can learn more about him here: http://sunsinger.blogspot.com/

There are countless more blogs and people I can introduce you to, but for now please enjoy exploring these writers’ worlds and tell them I said, “Hello, and thank you for the magic.” Like the author R.A.Salvatore once said, “No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith.”

Oh, I almost forgot. What do I call a gathering of mages?     Friends

’til soon,

Susanne

(a special thanks to Humberto Maggi for requesting the above illustration. I’ve drawn it for his up-and-coming article  ”The Great War of Magick” for the Conjure Codex…the magicians in the illustration are, from left to right: Hermes TrismegistusAiwass (the veiled king)Elias Artista (alchemist)Mercurio del Correggio, Christian Rosenkreuz and, in the bottom right hand corner, symbolic references to the biblical magi.)

  1. Last time I called a mage, I got that same message. I think that phone must be ringing out in a forgotten oracle’s storeroom.

I can see part of my Saturday morning is going to be occupied with your links here. Maybe I’ll stop by my blog and post something while I’m at it. Thanks for including the link.

    Malcolm

  2. Marion says:

Thank you, my lovely friend. How is it that we have never met, and yet I think of you so often? It is like visiting old friends as I do the rounds of the bloggy world, after taking a rather long break. And you have given me wonderful links here on this post, thank you.

I love the illustration of the gathering of the magicians.Such beautiful detail! xx

  3. Great picture Susanne! Love the bit on the muses too :)
