My name is Susanne Iles...
and I am a fifty-something year old symbolist artist, alchemist, writer, and adventurer in the making.
As some of you may know, I had my life's work stolen from me. We're talking about 30 + years of artwork, journals, tools, books and personal items. The idea of starting from scratch at my age was quite the blow to my self esteem. Add to the chaos a family tragedy, having half of my family living on the other side of the planet, as well as a terrifying cancer scare. You can well imagine the stress. I was reeling and felt bewildered, angry, and sad. How easy it would have been to throw up my hands and become a couch potato.
Then I discovered my superpower...
...I have a restless, wild heart.
I've been a professional artist, illustrator and writer for over thirty years. I've been interviewed on radio programs, written articles for some wonderful magazines, and have shown in international fine art exhibitions. I know how to handle a chainsaw, rebuild an engine, bake bread, and knit a sweater.
My heart reminded me that the world is a beautiful place and there is so much to see and do. It made me realize that there is a certain amount of freedom in becoming the Phoenix, while seeing, doing, and exploring each day with a fresh set of eyes.
I'm ever the curious child and am not afraid of trying new things.
Please join me as I journey around the world, explore new ideas, go adventuring, and create artwork.
Take my hand, and we will follow our wild hearts into worlds known and unknown.
